Enable Multiple Instances of Windows Live Messenger (WLM) for Multiple Logins

I just discovered that the latest version of Windows Live Messenger (WLM) supports multiple instances. That means, we don’t need any third party tool to crack it.

The support for multi-WLM i s not enabled by default, but can be easily turned on and enable with registry hack.

Go to Start -> Run
Type regedit and hit enter
Navigate to the following registry key: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger (For 64-bit x64 OS, go to following registry branch instead: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger)
In the right pane, right click on any blank space, select New on context menu, and then click on DWORD Value
Name the registry value as MultipleInstances with a value 1
Close Registry Editor

Start as many WLM instances as you wish. Its handy when you want to run an office and personal id at the same time.

I just came up with this question today morning when I am not able to even check or see old mails in my Windows Live mail account.

I had previously blogged about Windows Live policies on the number of email per hour and you know what? I cannot even get ANY email pass through that server to my hotmail live account even though my domain (and all its IPs) are not blacklisted.

I just set up a test application and set my email address to be one of hotmail, after some time the emails stopped coming through, further inspection revealed that these emails are being bounced off HOTMAIL server because it has a limit of 30 emails per domain per hour (in my case it was asim.pk domain).

Today, everyone wants to have a shorter email address. Why? because its small and its easy to remember. Additionally msn.com email address gives you 2GB mailbox. This is why many people want to have @msn.com email address instead of @hotmail.com but the question is how to get it?

Download MSN Explorer and signup for a new email address. I google’d a webpage that shows the whole process in screenshots, you may view it here. OR
Visit this page on MSN and create your FREE @msn.com email address. No downloads of any kind are required.

Note: For some users, it will show 1GB disk space. You can increase the disk space to 2GB by signing up for Hotmail Beta service. If you don’t like the new hotmail beta, doesn’t matter, switch back anytime and your disk space will still be 2GB.
